Horde Defenders aiming and tower placement

Understand manual tower aiming, high-ground bonuses and the different aim shapes described for Drone Hive and Vanguard.

Do Horde Defenders towers target enemies automatically?

The developer says towers fire at the point you aim at instead of choosing their own target. Building a defense therefore does not finish the targeting decision: you still need to direct its fire as the swarm moves. This is the first distinction to check if you arrive from a tower-defense game with automatic target selection.

The official description establishes the aiming mechanic, but does not publish a keyboard, controller or touchscreen binding chart. Read the controls shown on your device in the current game; a key from another Roblox game is not a reliable shortcut here.

What does high ground change?

The game description says elevated ground increases gun range and damage. It does not give a percentage, a height threshold or a stacking formula. The useful placement question is whether that position can cover the route you are trying to defend.

As a planning suggestion, follow the enemy path past a candidate position before committing to it. A higher location and a useful view of the approach are separate things to evaluate. A placement screenshot without the map, tower and upgrades cannot establish the best location for a different run.

A point, a ring and a line are different aiming problems

The newer official pass descriptions give two concrete examples of how an aim direction can shape an effect. These descriptions help you read the units; they are not measurements of their damage.

SystemWhat its official description establishesWhat to look at
Tower aimingFire follows your aim pointWhere the swarm is moving relative to that point
Drone HiveDrones patrol around the aim point and attack bugs inside the ringWhich part of the route lies inside the patrol area
Vanguard airstrikeThe strike runs along the aim lineThe direction of the line through the enemy approach

Use a missed wave to choose the next adjustment

This is an editorial way to review a run: separate where a defense was placed from where you aimed it. If your chosen aim point missed the moving group, start by changing the aim. If a position cannot cover the relevant approach, reconsider the position before judging the tower.

Keep an eye on the route after the first group passes. Focusing on a dense group can leave another approach unattended. Hero control adds another decision: the developer allows autonomous hero action as well as direct control, so compare how much attention each option leaves for tower aiming.

  2. Drone Hive — official Roblox pass Checked 2026-09-29. A new tower. Its drones circle the aim point and strafe every bug inside the ring, with its own upgrade tree for more drones, damage, fire rate and a wider patrol.
  3. Vanguard Hero — official Roblox pass Checked 2026-09-29. Unlock the Vanguard, a heavy rail hero with a shield that shoves the swarm back and an airstrike that carpets the aim line. Yours on every save slot.
